EVGA or Asus?

Go to solution Solved by ButCanItBacon,

Asus looks the best out of all the after market coolers, reference is also very good looking. I find Gigabyte and zotac to have the ugliest coolers on the planet.

That last part is very true. And you have a very similar setup to mine as well :) I am just going to go with the Asus one.

Hi, I am thinking about getting either an Asus Strix GTX 970 or EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0 SC. Which one performs better?

which one can overclock far (I do know about the silicon lottery) but on average, which card has been clocked higher?

which one that looks good (If it has an LED, is it RGB?)

Which one delivers more value? I live in the UK, the EVGA GTX 970 w/ out backplate is £290 and with a backplate it costs £305 and the Strix version is £305 too.

Which one do you think I should get? All answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

CPU+Cooler: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.5GHz + Corsair H105 (Getting custom loop soon)  GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC  RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB  Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero  PSU: Corsair AX860i  Case: Corsair Graphite 760T Black

Both are solid cards, and in this particular case I think it's all about which brand you like the most since the only difference here is the STRIX cooling system and the ACX clockspeed (factory overclocked) which you can still overclock a bit more and also overclock the STRIX one. Pretty much a brand issue here IMHO more than preformance.

EVGA has that ACX issue where one of the heatpipes attached to the heatsink has no thermal paste, and I have an Asus mobo so the Strix version might mix better :D

If you are overclocking hard > Get the one with the best Air Cooler/Aimed for Overclocking > That would be the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming and EVGA's and Zotac's AMP

> My personal pick is Gigabyte, aggressive full metal shroud and backplate and a glowing Windforce Logo

If you are in to Silent Cards the OWL is silent > its hands down STRIX since ASUS seems to be going for "silent gpu's"  and MSi's GTX 970 4G Gaming

> My Personal pick is MSi's (No backplate sadly but has faceplate and a glowing dragon) Plastic shroud but looks really nice imo, and it has alot of freebies including a nice mouse pad.

Both G1 Gaming and MSi's are good Overclockers too.

:)

And as for your thread, I'd go Strix. EVGA is nice but personally they haven't exactly updated their cooler in a while, and the strix card is just so beautiful.

Although I'm pretty sure evga is using a reference pcb so you could get a lot more watercooling blocks for it.

I think the gigabyte cooler looks the best! :(

I dont hate how the new Gigabyte cooler looks, but I liked the old one better. I actually think the MSI is the best looking, but doesn't match my system so I went with the Asus.

*Gigabyte Snip*

vs

*Asus Snip*

It's a no brainer personally.

Since that is the old windforce cooler its not really a fair comparison ;)

The new one is better, but I still find ASUS to have the best look :3. Also the Old Cooler was out while strix branding was out (with the strix 780).

Huh your right. I did not realize they even made a strix 780. I stand corrected :)

ASUS has better cards, but EVGA has second-to-none customer support for GPUs.

They're both excellent though.

ha, I can't get the 970 Strix anymore because they are now SOLD OUT in my country now :( looks like I must get the EVGA version then.
