Bios update

Go to solution Solved by runit3,

HI, i have an Asus Z87-Pro motherboard and i want to update the bios so that my processor intel core i7-4790 is compatible with my motherboard, but i dont have an extra cpu, can i still get into the bios and update my motherboard's bios? im not getting the unlocked one as im not interested in overclocking. i dont want to get a Z97 chipset motherboard as i dont wish to get a 5th generation processor any sooner, and it can save me a few bucks.

You'll have to use the USB BIOS Flashback

so, yes. Just need to get the BIOS on a FAT32 formatted USB and follow along with that video.

If ya not overclocking, there's no need for a Z-series, a B85 board could have done just fine. For the bios update, check on the board's website to see bios revision/CPU compatibility. If you have a new board, it should (hopefully) have a new bios that will work on the new CPU, if not then ask a repair shop for a 1st gen Haswell CPU to borrow

Also, make sure the BIOS is renamed to the correct designation AND that it is in the Root folder of the USB (not hidden in some sub-folder). It has more stringent requirements than just flashing through the UEFI.
