New Desktop PC

Okay so I am going to build a new PC and the last PC I built had a two core processor, so as you might guess I'm quite rusty when it comes to building a PC, but I hope that I will get some great feedback and tips along the way.

So i guess I should follow the sticky on this subforum and here it goes (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-reccomendations-please-read-before-posting

1. Budget is not a big deal, of course there are limits but not as much really, and I'm from Norway in Europe

2. So the aim for this PC is mainly going to be gaming, but I want to be capable to do mostly anything as I have a tendency to dabble into various things now and then

3. I have two monitors one 1920x1200 and one 1920x1080 I will only be using the 1920x1080 as the main monitor (games etc.) and the 1920x1200 for browsing etc.

4. Have all the peripherals I need

5. My last two pc's have been laptops because i needed the mobility but now I have settled down and it's time to upgrade from a gtx 460m and quad core 2.0 ghz

Case: Fractal Design R4 white windowed - http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&category=2∏=107

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z87 - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z87/

Cpu: Intel 4770k - http://ark.intel.com/products/75123/Intel-Core-i7-4770K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

Ram: kingston HyperX Beast 32gb 4x8 - http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/hyperx/predator/beast/

Gpu: Gtx 780 - http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-780

HDD for games and bootup: 2x Samsung 840 proseries 256gb in raid 0 - http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage/MZ-7PD256BW

Cpu cooler: Swiftech h220 - http://www.swiftech.com/h220.aspx

Wifi: Asus PCE-AC66 - https://www.asus.com/Networking/PCEAC66/

HDD mass storage: Western Digital Black 2TB - http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=760

PSU: Corsair ax860i - http://www.corsair.com/en/ax860i-digital-atx-power-supply-860-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu.html

So this is pretty much everything I have thought out for myself (and now others), everything is subject to change of course if any of you think something should be changed. The things I believe I am missing are as follows.

Fans: Noiseblocker (Wich model?)

HDD for Mass storage: Wich raid config should I use for 3x WD black 2tb (This will be for movies, music, pictures, documents, shitty software etc. This means that safety is the main priority as I most likely won't have these saved anywhere else, then again speed never hurts)

I think that is all I've got please correct any mistakes I have made, and I hope to see what any of you have to contribute.

well since your budget is not a big deal and that you bought a k series processor id recommend a ROG board  (there is one with the tuf armor if thats what yah like) but if you like the colour scheme of the sabertooth then well go with it :P

id go with the h220 cooler from swiftech but the h100i is really good.....a seasonic psu is what id go with and a good wifi card ...there is one that slick did a review on (asus ac)...that was a pretty premium one...

Hello there, just some quick recommendations...

for the PSU: have a look at XFX black edition power supplies with hybrid fan mode, these power supplies are powerful, efficient, fully modular and silent due to the fan not spinning until it reaches 20% load.

for the CPU cooler: one of the best closed loop coolers out there is the Swiftech h220, your case should support it, but I'm not 100% sure, have a look at compatibility.

For the raid config, it really depends on what is more important to you. performance or redundancy.

Or get an msi m power or mpower max or xpower and take of thr mobo and the wifi card all in one, plus its black like the sabertooth.

I like corsair's axi series but idk if it will fit your build great.

For fans get noiseblocker eloops, they are great plus since your rig is white and black it will fit in very well. As gts250ftw said either the h220 or the h100i, i personally prefer the h100i because of the rgb led on the block.

For storage i cant really help you, idk much about what drivesare best for raid "x" configurations

I'm currently making a list of PC parts I recommend to go with the ones you want. Two seconds and I'll edit this to add it, so stay on the look out.

Edit:

Here it is, http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TremorAcePV/saved/1IAw . Total price: $3100 US.

That's the build I would go with, considering what parts you want along with what you want to do with it.

If anything changes, let me know and I'll update it if you want. It also gives the cheapest prices found.

Ok I have decided to go for the Swiftech h220 for the cpu cooler and the noiseblocker fans, but I'm not sure wich ones I should get since there is a lot of different type of noiseblockers that I have found!

As for the motherboard I took a look at the ROG TUF one and stores say they wont get them until july or so, wich means august if I know norwegian stores right!

Wich leaves me with The PSU + cables, a good wifi card if I'm not wrong.

Yes I did, and I decided to go for the WD black drives cause of it and I thought the noiseblocker fans were so much nicer then the corsair ones that I wanted them. As for the wifi card you got isnt that a router? The corsair powersupply personally i think is quite ugly to be honest but i could spray paint it if it can handle it?

Edit: Okay I decided i would get the corsair 860w and spray paint it. But what difference does the i behind the name do? Also I need custom cables!

It can handle being spray painted, just cover the openings to the inside.

I chose the Corsair SP's because Linus recommended them.

No, that is a wifi adapter for your PC. It just has an external antenna that looks like a router.

Corsair makes quality components which is why I chose the PSU.

The i has some upgrades (improvements in efficiency I believe) over the non-i. I would get it.

Okay picked up the Corsair ax860i for the PSU and now the only thing i need to know is as follows.

1. Wich model of the noiseblocker should I use for this build?

2. wich raid configuration should I use for 3x WD black?

Thanks for all the help so far, nearing the end soon :)

Great choice of PSU!

On the harddrives I don't really see the need for Blacks if you're going to use them for mass storage and such. Seagate Barracudas are way cheaper and perform similar. Although they don't have the awesome 5 year warranty.

On the RAID setup I don't know much about it. But if you're going to put 3x drives in a RAID the only you could setup without a RAID-card would be RAID 5, if I'm not mistaken.

Current build: Antec P180, Asus P8Z68 Pro, Intel i5-2500k, Asus GTX 570 2GB, Patriot 16GB 1600MHz, Corsair HX 650W.
