4790k or 4770k? Which one should I choose and why?

Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

4790k is the superior option.

The 4770k has issues with sloppy TIM work making the temperatures much higher than normal and often would thermals be the barrier before voltage. Intel then came with the Haswell-Refresh series (which includes the 4790k) which improved the TIM among other things and brought the temps down significantly. This also allowed for a significant increase in base clock and turbo clock speeds.

I'm new to this kind of stuff but I would like to learn and I don't know how to start. Help please!

go for 4790K, 4790K has better TIM and stability rather than 4770K. in case of motherboard, use Z97 one, whis is better compatibility with Haswell-R processor (4790K is Haswell-R processor) and can be upgrade able to broadwell cpu (5770K perhaps?) :D

Yup, my 4770k overclocks like shit  :P

If the 4790k was out at the time I would have got that instead.

4790k, no real reason to get the 4770k unless you can get it way cheaper.

Go for the 4790k, it's better thermal dissipation means what ever cooling you go for will be more effective meaning the fans wont have to spin as fast leading to  a quitter PC and better overclocking potential.
