Full range Speakers for 10,000 cubic foot room

LIGISTX

I need some advice on speakers for a pretty large room (my parents want to re vitalize their bedroom speakers, one blew out a while back...) I don't know what they had (they have since been thrown away without me having a chance to look at them), but I know there were two speakers on each side of the room, and they filled a 40 foot long, 18-20 foot wide and 18 foot high room. The room has a sloping ceiling, so the speakers will be up about 12-13 feet on rafters on the 18 foot high side.

I am not at all versed in large full range speakers, but I am just looking for something that is good quality but not anything insane. I also don't really know prices for such speakers, but if possible they want to spend about 500 total, but if required could *easily* spend more. I am not really looking for "floor standers". I think I am looking for just large single woofer speakers, maybe, honestly I don't know. My parents have some Polk Monitor 65T's and the accompanying center for their home theater setup in the living room and my mom isn't a huge fan of them (not sure if its the source audio or the speakers themselves though...). But like I said, I don't think we are after tall floor standers. Maybe I am looking for "loudspeakers"? I am not sure on the terminology, or if this is actually a good idea.

Also, we will be getting a new receiver, and we get a pretty good discount on Sony stuff, so I will probably be driving these from a decent Sony receiver, possibly a HD740 or 1040 or similar.

Speakers will be mainly for good quality music (all kinda of music) and double duty as TV speakers, but mainly intended for music playback).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Uhhhhh....

I mean ok.

Room is about 12 meters long (side to side), 5.5 deep, and the speakers will be up about 4 meters high on the 5.5 meter high sealing side. The lowest point of the sealing is 3 meters high and is a slope from the 3 meter side to the 5.5 meter high side (speakers will be on the rafters of the 5.5 meter high wall but up 4 meters like previously stated)

Put every measurement in meters, then we're talking.

O, and I guess that makes the total room volume about 3,000 cubic meters. lol

Ok, will these be derivable my a normal home theater receiver tho? The inputs on those are not what I am used to (normal 14 awg speaker wire is what I am used to... lol).

How would I drive them from a receiver?

Probably not, unless your home theater is really powerfull.

Well we are building it... I can buy whatever we need. But that doesn't mean we are going to spend LOTS of money. I need to get a standard receiver so I can plug TV, satellite TV, and DVD into it, single HDMI out to the TV, and then sound out to the speakers. I don't know if these speakers will work for that...?

If not, what do I want?

Why PA speakers? They're not exactly mean't for good audio. Just loud. I'm sure there are full range speakers that will get loud enough.

Do you know of any? They don't need super loud... Just enough to fill the room and sound great.

There are more good ones than bad. Just go with a reputable brand and it'll be fine. A good receiver will be important though and I don't know enough to give a recommendation.

A pair of these will fill your room and would work with the usual receivers:

http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Reference-Flagship-Floorstanding-Speaker/dp/B00414VRH6

This pair will produce most of the audible range even without the help of a subwoofer.

For a lower cost set, maybe a pair of these:

http://www.amazon.com/JBL-ES90BK-8-Inch-Floorstanding-Speaker/dp/B00166VDK8

A nice sub that's integrated properly can help the bottom end of this pair, if desired.

A nice receiver will make a noticeable difference with both speakers (especially for music). Pioneer's Class D3 receivers deliver great performance; some can be had at a low price nowadays (say the SC-1222). Marantz becomes a very good option as the budget goes up; the SR5009 and the SR7008 are great for music (and come with good processing).

Lol, 1300 each!?!

I don't doubt those are amazing, but any idea on something cheaper? Lol.

Trying to spend 500-800 total on speakers. But at the same time, do it right the first time. Don't wana get something and be like well shoot, that didn't work. What about some 300 ish dollar Klipsch's? Or another company all together?

For Klipsch, the RB-81 II costs $850 a pair. They'd be fine for typical music playback levels, but a bigger set may be worth it for a home theater application.

The JBL ES90 sells for a huge discount these days ($500 per pair from Amazon) and may be able to fit the bill.

The Klipsch F-30 is another inexpensive option (a little over $500 per pair with shipping), but I am not too fond of how they sound out of the box (too forward for my liking). They can sound good with some processing though (a nice AVR should fix things).

The BIC DV84 is also a well-received speaker at an even lower price point ($285 per pair with shipping); a bit older-school in design though. The price is low enough that the DV62CLRS center ($96) and the DV62SI bookshelves ($111) could be added to build a 5 pc. set for the same price as a JBL or a Klipsch pair.

Are you getting a subwoofer for this system as well?
