Hello,

First, I have never built a PC before, though I have added RAM and a graphics card in the past to my exsisting machine, I was wondering if there is an insteruction location or video tutorlial posted that can show me how to put together a PC part by part and how to check if the parts are good and what I will need to put it all together.

Secondly, this the build I am looking at, advice to improve would be greatly appreciatred.

please get a better power supply, and add an SSD in there, and i recommend another model of the GTX 970, the gigabyte G1 gaming is the best for me.

as for a build guide video, here you go:

Edit: a better power supply would be the EVGA supernove 750 G2

Where are you from? What is the PC for? Do you need an OS, monitor, peripherals, optical drive?

Get 2x8 gigs of RAM (32 is serious overkill), throw in an SSD for sure, and honestly the PSU isn't a horrible option... Better is never bad, but that PSU isn't "bad" by any means.

Also, if you plan to overclock I would go with a better cooling solution than a h55.

H100/100i for instance. If they will fit in your case... which it should

I would pick up a samsung evo 250 gig instead (great SSD and amazing price for a 250 gig)

Also, why the Asus Xonar? That sound card won't do all that much for you imo.

The sound system was cheap and had excellent ratings. The turth is I know nothing of PC sound systems. It is often that I don;t listen to game music or even if I am on Photoshop I am more likeiy to have the stereo on or a game on in the background.

The case choice would hold everything and was cheap, I wanted my money to go the meat of the system (CPU, RAM, Motherboard).

But the SSD switch would be rather easy. A better sound option is always welcome also.

Thank you for all the help andf the video tutorial.

Why aim so low a reduction? This has all the performance of what you listed, but none of the extraordinary price attached to it. The CPU cooler wasn't very good, 120mm CPU coolers rarely are. In order for them to be good, they need rather thick radiators, but then the price shoots up like mad. Better to choose a decent air cooler in that case which I have done for you.

Everything here is quality, something I would buy if I was in the USA and required an i7 and a 970. Put the savings towards a decent G-Sync monitor fund or something.

This is my suggestion, although the above suggestion is just as good and cheaper.

$30 soundcards are pointless as ANY onboard motherboard audio can match or beat them. You need to spend $200 on a soundcard to hear a difference.

And 5400RPM drives in desktops are to be avoided. Also Seagate is not the most reputable SSD mfg. Neither is PNY for that matter. I suggest Crucial or Samsung or Intel for SSD. Seagate or WD for HDD.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.

After looking over suggestions in here and at other posts in the forum from the many helpful people here, this is the build I have in mind just missing a cooling system.

From what I have seen and read on here (and checking out some other sites and guides)  this seems to be a quality build.

I am just curious about the cooling system and if this set-up is a good value (value meaning - am I overpaying $30-$40 for a component if I can get the same quality for a cheaper price).

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($329.98, SuperBiiz)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($102.99 Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($363.02 Amazon)

Case: NZXT Phantom (Black) ATX Full Tower Case ($99.99 - $20 mail-in rebate $79.99 Newegg)

Power supply:EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (109.99 - $20 mail-in rebate NCIX US)

Total: $1475.82
