if you aren't planning on overclocking get a H97 board. They're cheaper but don't allow for overclocking

I have an Athlon 760k with a R9 280. (get decent fps in battlefield 4 on high) They don't bottleneck each other. And the Athlon 760k is a weaker cpu than the i5 4440 so there shouldn't be a bottleneck. As for the motherboard, I haven't looked much into intel but I would go with jeman99 and get a z97 for future proofing.

No, only the K series can overclock(ones with a "K" at the end of the name).

so i should get an h97 mobo?

the i5-4440 not being an haswell refresh you have freedom, any H81, B85 or H87 motherboard would do as well so get the cheapest available and save some more.

This one would do the job just fine and as a good price:

Nope a 280 will do perfectly fine with a 4440. Also since the CPU can't be overclocked, you can get any LGA1150 motherboard you like. Even the $50 H81 boards will do fine.
