Hi! This is my rig:

I5 4570

Gigabyte B85M D3H

Western Digital Blue 1TB

Well, I saw the "Fastboot" option in my BIOS. I like speed, but I saw that there's the chance that you can't access the BIOS because it's too fast.

Should I enable it? I will see any improvement?

Thanks :D

Oh god getting a computer with fast boot on to fix annoys me more than people that leave a number to call them back in a voice mail in one breath at the end of a 5 minute message.

Hahaha that's a no then. I need BIOS access for the fans PWM values and stuff. Thanks, I think that I can wait 10 seconds more, i'll find something to do in that time.

Do you have Windows 8?

I know that on my board it is only supported with Win 8.

Nope, Windows 7, the BIOS doesn't say that is Windows 8 exclusive, it's just there. There's a specific Windows 8 section with boot options and stuff.

Windows 7 ftw. My manual said that on my board it was set for only Win 8. Try it and see if it works on yours. Nothing wrong with fast boot times.

Any thoughts on upgrading to a SSD for even faster boot times/loading times?

Old motherboards quick boot mode means bypassing RAM check, but newer motherboards/laptops always skip RAM check and quick/fast boot make boot process too fast that sometimes make it almost impossible to enter UEFI/BIOS or change boot device

Yup, I know SSD's are much better but I just bought a 970 so my wallet it's dry. I will get a 120GB SSD next year I think.

From what i've seen I will leave it off, I don't want to mess too much with the BIOS, and I don't want to clear CMOS every time :P

with Gigabyte boards, you can use one of their "AppCenter" applications to access the BIOS or to enable/disable fastboot within windows

INTEL CORE I5 4670K | NVIDIA GTX 980 | NOCTUA NH-L9i | GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-SLI | KINGSTON 120GB V300

CM STORM QUICKFIRE TK | BENQ XL2420TE | ROCCAT SAVU | FRACTAL DEFINE R4

Im going to try out shortening my boot times and see what i get with and without fast boot.

A wise choice on the 970. For the SSD size, Id suggest getting a 240GB or a 256GB SSD for a boot drive. I like to have the OS and a couple of programs that i use often on there.

I did use a 128GB for a couple of years but Im glad i upgraded to a 256GB. So much room for activities!!!

Well, I will save a little bit more for a 256GB SSD. Now I hope that my 970 and my i5 last at least 2 years. First I spent money in a 760, then I sold it and finally the 970 came. I just hope that I didn't got screwed up (paid $400 for the G1 Gaming, I live in Mexico) because I have spent a lot of money in my rig :(
