Z87...cheaper. you'll not upgrade the 4770K for a while and certainly not with a broadwell CPU which is the only one that will be supported on this platform and is only die shrink (no additionnal performance or very little, only better power consumption.)

Z97, leaves you with a better upgrade path.

z87 works for it, so does z97. z87 was made for it, z97 was made for it and the future. Essentially, you can choose to be stuck with the 4770k, or you can choose to have space to upgrade.

if you're out of money z87

if you want upgreadbility z97

what ''upgreadability''? do you guys really think that intel will pull a rabbit out of the magic hat and launch something that would be a worthy upgrade to the i7-4770K on the Z97 chipset? you are silly!

4790k, better overclocks, better temps. And broadwell, may be half decent, may be the exact same.

Z87 should also be compatible with Broadwell.  If Z97 is compatible with Broadwell, that means it is an 1150 socket.  The chip will fit.  So in theory, all that will be needed is a BIOS update, and viola! Broadwell on a Z87.

As for the OP, get an Asus Z87 or Z97 that has the features you need.

I vote for Asus Z97-AR.  Beautiful motherboard with all of the necessary features and then some.

if you plan on using this one day if it goes mainstream then go for it...i know i'll never use one and i do have an M.2 on my Z87 board if i recall correctly.

EDIT: nope, it's MSATA...never gonna use this either LOL...all you need is sata 3 ports. Those are gimmicks that will never go mainstream IMHO.

OP stands for original poster, and this is dangerously overpriced if you want my opionion...let me check for something better for you...

This is what i would recommend if you really want ASUS:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132128&cm_re=Z97-_-13-132-128-_-Product

Otherwise this one would be a better pick IMHO:

Forget Z87, i guess in canada the Z97 board are about the same price so why not...
