E8400 to Q9650?

Hi. I have a Gigabyte X48 DQ6 motherboard, 8g ram, currently an E8400 core 2 duo. Wondering if it's worth upgrading cpu to core 2 quad Q9650.

Mainly looking to upgrade to play Star Citizen. Planning on buying an R9 290 to put on that board as well.

Is it worth it?

it is a worthy upgrade indeed but even an highly overclocked Q9650 won't play star citizen very well i'm sure...it will also bottleneck a R9 290 pretty bad in many (most) games...

you'd be better selling online your stuff and purchase more modern suff, here:

for that he'd need a ''K'' CPU...i'm assuming the OP is not shitting money so i went for something more budget oriented.

i think so...at least motherboard and CPU...RAM if you're not on DDR3 already.

QX9650 at 4GHZ here....downloading star citizen as we speak. If you still want to go that route I'll have some results of how it plays in a bit. Running on 8 GB of Gskil ddr3, using a gigabyte 970.

would you please send me via PM a link where you are downloading the game i'd like to give it a try...and your rig is very unbalanced a gtx970 deserves at the very least a sandy bridge core i5 IMHO...you should monitor your gpu load while playing...

the game is not yet released i doubt you can dowload it from ''their website''...

EDIT: looking at it now i cant even find an official website so please provide a link...
