Hello everyone first let me apologize for any spelling errors I'm on mobile. So I'm looking for advice for my new build. I already have a case and power supply. Just need the rest of this looked over.

I'll be using it most for gaming and school. The most intensive use it'll most likely have is just gaming and watching movies. I will have three monitors hooked up and I would like 4k on just one. Maybe down the future I'll get another card for more 4k. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

The H100i is quite old, so get a H110, H220-X or X61 instead

That's a fairly expensive mobo

Why not get 2 GTX 970 instead? it cost 100$ more compare to 1 980 but perform hell alot better.

Provided the case you already have has adequate airflow, this CPU cooler should be fine. The mobo is both inexpensive and very functional. You didn't include RAM but made no mention of owning any, so I added 8gb. Changed the 980 to the Zotac which is a triple fanned open shroud design; it will dump all it's hot air into the case so again if you have a case with adequate airflow, that would be nice. The SSD and HDD I changed to be economical.

You need to tell us what case and PSU you have so that we can inform you of your future prospects with this setup. If you only have a 500w/600w PSU, you ain't gonna get two of these 980s. If the case is complete gash, you're going to want to replace it.

And lastly for ease of mind, do you live in the USA?

I do live in the USA Cali to be exact as far as my PSU I currently have a 620 semi modular. And my case will be a 650D corsair case. I suppose I should upgrade my PSU fort he future.

A 620W PSU should already be more than enough for 2 970 or 2 980, so dont worry much about it.

For providing power yes, but perhaps not in terms of having the correct pci-e power pins. I'm not sure the 9xx series comes with molex adapters. Also if the PSU brand is a complete dog then it wouldn't be recommended running it at near capacity.

It's an Antec HCG-620M.

Yes, if you want to SLI 2 980's you'll need another PSU. But I wouldn't worry about that just yet. First you need to max out the use of one first. By the by, when you upgrade your monitor, don't get 4k. One thing about 4k which I'm not fond of at the moment is the fact that it's 4x the pixel count as 1080, people are always recommending 2GB cards for 1080 gaming, but using a 4gb card on 4k means in effect you're driving 4 1080 monitors with 1GB of vram each. We've barely started to tame 4k. For gaming, I recommend the RoG Swift. 16:9 still has a lot to offer and gaming on that is supposed to be quite the experience.

I would recommend looking the price range because the i5 you can find for way cheaper.... for example on the rig I'm going to build I have a 8 core processer for cheaper than your quad core... of course its an AMD instead of an intel.

But that is just in my point of veiw

Hope i could help :) Message me if you would like some help

In a broad sense no. The cheaper AIOs aren't very good for either keeping quiet or cool. Air cooling is good both at the lower end and the higher end, they're about as good as the high end AIOs but typically are quieter because there is no pump noise like there is from an AIO. That particular air cooler I recommended is both good at cooling, and quiet. It's also reduced by a significant amount. It's certainly worthy of consideration.

I have no first hand experience with your current psu so I'm not sure about if you should sli with it or if it has enough connectors. if not then just use the extra bucks and buy a new psu.

No point in going SLI if his monitor cannot surpass 60hz at 1080. His PSU cannot handle it in any case, only comes with 2 8pins for pci-e. Only comes with 3 molex connectors so using molex to pci converters would not work either, he'd need 4.

well it is still his choice :).

the point for sli/xfire if you're not going for use the extra performance is if you like the looks of having multiple cards.

I'm currently building a new rig and just waiting for the case to be delivered :) with sli 970 and gonna use the old dell 1440x900 resolution monitor that came with my old dell studio hybrid :) and the case will be a 450D with a i3 3220 (I just replaced the motherboard to a micro atx one). gonna be my new lan rig. all for the looks of the tower.

on the build I posted he can easily buy a psu since I'm around like 1,054 bucks should have enough to buy a decent psu to get him in the long run and sell of his old one or just make a new htpc or something :).

anyways it's still the choice of ts.

Live your life like a dream.
