Yes, anything on the SSD will be loaded faster compared to a HDD. Games and applications will load faster.

Does an ssd only help with boot times or does it make games load a bit snappier?

NO FPS gains whats so ever, NADA, ZILCH anyone telling you otherwise is wrong. BUT; Loading times will go down think loading and booting are nearly identical things, if an OS loads on hdd in 1 minute yet 10 seconds on ssd... vs a game that loads in 6 seconds will load in 1 second.
