I currently have a Sapphire 7950 and looking to upgrade the end of this year or the start of next. My original plan was to get the R9 290x but with the new release of the 980 it looks very tempting. I mostly play Arma 2 and dayz. So I thought NVIDEA would be my best option. The 980 is more expensive however but I think I can go that price. Another thought that came to mind, what if AMD release a new card? If they do it would be nice to keep it all AMD. Anyway I really like the look of the 980. So I am going to ask a few questions. What card should I get out of the two? Should I wait for new card releases? Will the 650w 80+ gold be enough for the cards? Im just throwing these questions out there because people on these forums reply quicker than any other and often provide great feedback. Answer away!

you should go for 970, if you OC it it becomes as fast as a stock 980, and costs like 200-300$ less. 650w is more than enough for new 900 series cards, they are very power efficient

If you play Arma and Dayz I'd save the money and get an intel Cpu, it will have a bigger impact on fps. The Arma games are poorly optimized for anything with more than 4 cores.

I see they are quite a bit cheaper. I think I am leaning towards NVIDEA as the new cards look amazing.

You see I was thinking of switching to NVIDEA and INTEL. If I sold my CPU, GPU and motherboard and bought a new ones with the money I got from selling and money at the end of the year do you think it would be worth it?

If you still want a 290x, they have been marked down sagnifigantly is the past couple of weeks and can now be found starting at $370 or so. 650W should be enough for both your CPU and GPU, though any crossfire or extreme overclock would be pushing it.

The GTX 970 is also a great idea, though it's hard to find them in stock at the moment.

As far as a complete system rebuild goes, the FX-8320 is still a decent processor and should handle fine for the time being if you want to keep it.
