Sound card!!

Go to solution Solved by fishymamba,

How about this card:

ASUS Xonar DSX PCI Express Soundcard

http://www.scorptec....47950-xonar-dsx

That is a pretty low end card, I would go for at least a Xonar DX.

greetings,

i am a first timer putting together a 4th gen i7 (4770k) pc. I will be using the Asus maximus vi extreme motherboard for it. The  Motherboard does not come with the supreme fx sound functions like the other ROG motherboards. My question is do I need to buy a separate sound card or the integrated sound is sufficient. The board has a built in optical out which I am most likely to use.

will the audio be good without the secondary sound card (i.e. will i have 7.1 support) or do i have to buy another one; if i do which one?(am not looking to spend too much on something like asus phoebus ). I would be glad to get any tips and suggestions on other aspects as well..

I cannot understand why they left out the SupremeFX cluster though!

Maybe because if you are spending that much money on a motherboard they are expecting you to get a high end sound card.

Nah because its a more OC orientated mobo, opposed to being more gaming orientated, hence they bailed on the audio.

I'm just a soul who is up to no good.

What speakers are you going to be using? Honestly, motherboards have (subjectively) decent onboard sound regardless, they have for some years.  I'd say unless you're picking up an order far away or delivery is combined, build your build and if you're not happy, pay the extra. And depending on your budget, the Asus Xonar Essence STX got crazy good reviews (although probably a little too expensive) - it was my pick until I decided to go with an all Audioengine configuration. Creative are also decent.
