PC Building Advice

Go to solution Solved by SimpleG,

Hi There,

Thanks for those suggestions.

I heard that Zotac GPUs aren't as good as EVGA hence why i went with EVGA instead (OCed ofc)

Also I did consider getting 4x 1 TB Samsung Pro SSDs and running Raid 10 but then I realized it wouldnt matter any way as all I need the room for is storage really, so any simple High Cap HDD would have sufficed.

Regarding the PSU I have heard that EVGA 1000W Super Nova is classified to amke use of the C6/C7 modes of the CPU which will be good in the long run in terms of power bills as well as the fact that I may go 3 way SLI in maybe 4 years depending on how fast gaming tech increases (Although I don't see it going up by much due to the PS4 and XBOX One choices of sticking with 30FPS at 1080p , Ex - ubisoft locking 30FPS at 900p for Assassins Creed Unity)

I added Zotac becouse of the 1.26 GHz speed. You could get some thing like few WD reds and make a nas drive

Hi Everyone,

I have been saving up for years to buy a really awesome pc and I wanted to know what your opinions are on some of the options that I've chosen and what ideas you may have to better improve the system. I've spent weeks sorting through what I should put into it and I would be very grateful for any advice you guys (the pros') can give me. Also regarding the budget it is about $6000.00 and the main aim is to future proof a desktop for gaming.
This is what I've come up with so far;

Ram:
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (4GBx4) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) CL16 SR x8 Unbuffered DIMM 288-Pin Memory

Optical Drive:
ASUS BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS 12X Blu-ray Internal Burner Drive with Disc Encryption

Case:
Cooler Master HAF X - Full Tower Computer Case with High Airflow Windowed Side Panel and USB 3.0 (Already Purchased)

CPU:
Intel Core i7-5960X Haswell-E 8-Core 3.0GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W Desktop Processor (Already Purchased)

MotherBoard:
ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME, Extended ATX x99 Motherboard , LGA 2011-V3 Socket, DDR4 3300Mhz+(OC) (Already Purchased)

CPU Cooler:
Noctua NH-D15 (I plan to game for very long hours on 4k, But I am reluctant to get WaterCooling for fear of leaks or evaporation)

Hardrives:
2 x Western Digital 4 TB Green SATA III 5400 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM (Storage) (Already Purchased)
1 x Intel SSD DC P3700 Series SSDPEDMD400G401 (400GB, 1/2 Height PCIe 3.0, 20nm, MLC) (For installing games/programs/OS) (Already Purchased)

GPU:
2 x GTX 980 Geforce

Power Supply:
EVGA Supernova 1000 (Already Purchased)

Monitor:
Samsung 28-Inch Ultra High Definition LED Monitor (Already Purchased it....Before the new ASUS monitor came out T_T)

I will appreciate any advice you guys can give me.

So far the parts you have already purchased are pretty nice, before I make any recommendations, what do you plan to do on this pc? BTW, that budget is amazing, you have enough to make a fantastic build!  :D

Hi There,

Thanks for the response.

Yeah I've been saving up for this build for about 5 years now....Originally started with a budget of $10,000 but then decided to go down to $6,000 cause I figured what the hell might as well get a 60inch Plasma and game on it using the nvidia Shield :D.

I plan to use this about 80% for gaming and 20% for basic work stuffs (excel, word, etc.) and maybe some light programming depending on whether I decide to go down that path in the future

I'd suggest getting a custom loop

WTF have you bought a 5960X cpu for ?

Well tbh I figured I wanted to get a computer that would not get outdated for at least 6 years or so and could still game at 60 fps on at least med settings in the next 6- 8 years.

From what I understand, if you OC the cpu you can get higher FPS in real world applications, so I figured what the hell, might as well :P

This cpu will get you like, 6 more fps  :D SInce you already have it although, at least you got a great motherboard. That motherboard gives you the option for quad sli later on.

My name is Sebastian, I relate to Linus

But most games don't support 4Way Sli!

Because he had a hard drive.

Ive seen some games get between 8 and 16 fps on ultra high settings in real world testing.

I think on one of the vids Linus did he did prove this. Not sure which one though

...

I think that will cut down in Hard Drive Speed.

For storage it will guaranteed to not be as fast as my PCI Native SSD but it is only for storage, not for installing programs. Also i will not be running these in any form of RAID configuration either so I am guaranteed to get the most life out of these HDDs as well as a lower power bill.

I added Zotac becouse of the 1.26 GHz speed. You could get some thing like few WD reds and make a nas drive

The EVGA ones i bought have a boost clock of 1367MHz;

Also the NAS.....That's a pretty good idea lol.

But as this is going to be my first pc build I better take it one step at a time.

Once I have finished building the pc then I can do my research on how to build a NAS as I am an avid collector of anime and would definitely like to store my supply somewhere safe in the event that my external hdds decide to crash on me.
