OC Memory

Hello everyone, i am building a new computer, and i bought a FX 9370 with a Sabertooth 990fx r2.0, in the motherboard manual (i called ASUS to confirm it too) it says it can handle memory up to 2400 OC, and 1300-1800 without OC.

 

My doubt is, since the price of the 2400 memory is almost the same as the 1800 (yes, i know what both are for and how they work), will i be able to OC the memory in the motherboard BIOS or is this too hard?

 

 

If this is easy and i should be able to do it, how do i do?

You plug it in, boot into BIOS, select XMP from the drop-down menu, and you're done.

Should i have a water cooler for memory?

In my country does not exist a good retailer for handmade water loops, unfortunately because i would love to build my own, so i bought corsair's water cooler for the processor, and if it is necessary for the memory too i would like some recomendations.

Honestly, memory OC isn't worth the trouble.  It doesn't improve performance enough to be worth the trouble, and possible instability memory OC causes.  Just buy the 2400Mhz stuff and enable XMP in the BIOS like Runit instructed.  No need to water cool memory.  That processor runs very hot and you will need some kind of high end cooling solution.

The H100i has been known to cause problems, but mainly on the Intel side.

 

The Phantom 820 is a good case, but there are better, and less expensive options.  I know you're limited because of the country you're in, but check to see if the Phanteks Enthoo Pro or Phanteks Enthoo Luxe are available.

phantec's are not available here, i tought about the 750D, but too many people relating breaking parts because of the plastic.

 

The budget is not my problem since i am done trying to save money and regreting it.

The FX CPUs officially support speeds up to 1866MHz natively. Anything beyond 1866MHz requires overclocking of the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC).

Overclocking anything is NOT 100% guaranteed. Even though your motherboard and RAM can support 2400MHz, the IMC in your CPU may not be stable at 2400MHz.

 

JJ from ASUS made a video about this. He talks about it on the Intel Z97 platform, but it is valid for both AMD and Intel.

Both have the IMC inside the CPU package.
