Not necessarily. I have a reference GTX 760 by EVGA and it has this cooler:

But it isn't great cause the fan is locked in the vBIOS so it won't go below 40% which is... loud.

lol. You must have an open case planted up against your face. I have a reference 780ti and it does not get audible until it reaches 50% and I have to focus for that. 55-60 is when it gets noticable without me focusing and it won't get loud until about 70%.

I don't think so. Their main partner is Evga, so I guess thats as close as you can get to a true nvidia branded reference card. lol

If you get an OEM part yes, I have an old OEM 5870 from a dell that's straight from AMD.

Aren't all reference models OEM? The different vendors might have different clock speeds but im fairly sure all the reference models are OEM, the 760 as shown above is still a reference cooler, it's a different shroud but that is in fact the reference cooler. However it's not OEM because of that and believe the bios on those cards is also slightly altered by evga. I had a 780 like that and support told me the flashed the bios and put their own on it.

Yes usually that's the case where Evga or another branded company will but their own bios and clock it differently, what I meant by OEM was if he wanted unbranded or AMD/Nivida branded cards it would need to be through a computer manufacture's OEM parts bin to get one.

How would you go about that? If you go to nvidia's website they just refer you to where to buy which does not have nvidia branded parts. So are completely reference models not bios flashed?

They are basically cards directly from AMD or Nivida themselves usually you'd have to buy a computer from a manufacture like dell that has access directly to those specific parts, for bios flash I believe they are are done by Nivida or AMD, that I'm not too sure about so don't quote me on that.

Well, that is a different cooler that's supposed to be more quiet. If it isn't - you might have a hearing problem :P I do have a Bitfenix Phenom standing ON the desk, around 3 feet from my head but I can still hear the GPU when I walk out the door. Only way to turn the fan down more is to mod the bios. So for OP that means, when you can get an Nvidia reference design; Get that.
