"How are my parts, monitor, and peripherals?"

I'd recommend using an external optical drive, so you can use it on any of your PCs, and that you go for a cheaper motherboard.

Also, MX100 SSD>840 EVO

And Windows 8.1>>>>>>>>>7

Seriously, there's no reason to not use it.

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

What exactly does the Maximus Hero give you that you couldn't get from a $130 board? Nothing, that's what.

You'll get the same performance and a lot of the same features for $70 less.

Look at Z97-A & Z97 Extreme4/6

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.

You may want to consider getting a motherboard that has on-board dual band ac WiFi and Bluetooth, http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/overall-list/#f=2&c=99&e=31,15,30,14,8.

An IPS panel monitor would have better color reproduction and wider viewing angles.

24'' IPS Monitor. Removed the fan controller for a 4 pin fan splitter cable and changed the case to something cheaper but more sexy, kept the white case theme. Changed the mobo for something more utilitarian, comes with wi-fi. Changed the AIO to an air cooler, also white, and 3 more fans for top exhaust. Blue ram (same spec) to match the new mobo. Cheaper and more economical SSD. More economical PSU. Added i7 4790k!

Saved you over $100!

That is a more sensible approach, one I took into account in my spec.

See the Addendum at the bottom of http://www.anandtech.com/show/7364/memory-scaling-on-haswell/10 for an explanation as to why a 2x8GB kit is preferred over two 1x8GB kits.

That was concerning 2400mhz RAM. From what I could tell from the blurb; It was talking about adding two kits together, two kits both running in dual channel memory. The problem would seem to be resolved when you use a pair of sticks in dual channel, that would seem to be logical. It would also be the case if it was high speed, and it seems to be an issue with the XMP profile. If you manually entered the timings, that should be fine. Also refers to "...a lot of headroom". It would be quite feasible to OC the ram to 2000mhz, or even 2133mhz. Admittedly it isn't guaranteed, but there's little risk. For myself, if I could save a bit by buying a pair of separate sticks and run them in dual channel, I would certainly consider it.

The discussion in the Addendum is general to memory and XMP, 2400MHz parts are simply used as examples. Of course one can manually set timing parameters. However, as noted in the Addendum, there is a possibility that one will not be able to achieve the advertised speed and timings. In fact with two single module kits there is the possibility that one will not even be able to run dual channel.

These possibilities are unlikely, especially for lower speed parts. But for the sake of five or ten dollars it doesn't seem to me worth the risk of having to replace ~$150 in memory to get the desired performance. But to each their own. I simply wanted to let people know that there is a risk in buying multiple memory kits instead of one.

You did well, and are to be commended for your punctilious nature. There aren't many people who would show such tendency towards efficacy in dealing out advice.
