I'd like to preface this by saying this is the first time I've build a pc and I know little about the witchcraft that goes on within one. That being said I have painstakingly assembled my Pc and the first time it booted to bios fine no problems, cpu temps at 27 degrees no red flags. I then took a break to go eat. After i returned I stuck in a usb stick to try to install windows, after about 30s of inserting the stick the screen went black. I ran through all the things the internet said could be the culprit: lose power cables, improper cpu installation, bad ram, or a bad gpu connection. I checked all these things none seemed to fix it. Having lost all hope I was in the process of putting on all of the body panels and accidentally pushed the power button. The computer booted to bios without a problem. Again i stuck in the usb stick to install window this time an immediate black screen so i pulled the stick out and the bios returned only to go to black screen again after 30s. I am at a loss, any suggestions? It cant be a hardware problem if it can boot without a problem (occasionally) no?

Here are the specs:

Asus Z-97 pro wifi

Gigabyte g1 gtx 970

i5 4690k

Seasonic X-650 650w psu

if i'm not mistaken multiple reboots(black screen) when installing a new OS/fresh system could occus with asus mobo's, everything else should be fine thou, try to install and see if it goes back to installing automaticly, otherwise it might be a PSU problem.

(pure speculation)

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

@Fate Thats what i thought at first too so tried the usb stick on another computer and it worked fine.

@Bsmith It never got as far as an installation it black screened while i was in the bios attempting to change the boot order.

hmm if that's the case i bet that it might be a problem with the PSU, altough that is hard to tell.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.
