Hi guys. I bought a pre-Made Gaming pc about 3 years ago now roughly. The Acer predator g3610. It consists of an i7-2600 3.4 GHz processor. 16gb RAM a gtx 550ti gpu and uses a 450watt powersupply. I would like to upgrade the gpu to a gtx 970 to be able to play the latest and most future games in Ultra settings if possible. Ive already ordered a new midi chassis for more room and better cooling possibilities than the original one the system came with. I was also planning on buying either a 550 watt or 650 Watt powersupply with a Gold or Bronze rating. The question is, will I be able to run the gtx 970 with the i7 2600 locked cpu and play in Ultra settings? Or would I need a new cpu? And motherboard of course. The gtx 970 is already gonna burn quite a hole in the pocket so I would be looking for some cheaper but also decent alternatives if I do need a new mobo and cpu. This is my first time buying pc upgrade components btw. Is AMD something to consider as a cheaper alternative to intel to go with the 970? But yeah any kinda help/feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

A new CPU and motherboard is unnecessary, the 2600 is still a very good CPU.

The 2600 still is a great cpu. Maybe a little less perfomance, but 4-5 fps max

With a new gpu, you'll be running great fps

Go ahead and get the 970.

Oh pre-builts and their horribly un-balanced specs... what computer with those specs would ever need 16GB of ram?

That is one thing that really annoys me about pre-built gaming computers.

Intel Core i7-2600, 16GB of RAM but only a GeForce GTX 550i. I'm sure if they halved the RAM and installed a Core i5-2500K they could stretch to a GTX 560 without it costing more and yet be a lot more powerful

One last question. Wouldnt it be a good idea to get a better mobo at all? One of better quality than the Existing one

Possibly but I doubt you'll be able to, pre-builts generally have weird motherboards that you can't just replace with something better.
