I've overclocked my 4670k to 4.6ghz @1.250v @ 63deg average temp the rest is in AUTO. It was ok with AIDA64 stress test in override mode(full manual), so I tried to OC my RAM too 2200 @1.65v. But when I go back to adaptive mode, it keeps crashing when I try to run AIDA64. So I brought back to stock my RAM+ DRAM voltage and tried again. Still crashes. Is there something wrong?

MOBO : z97 AsRock Extreme6

RAM : Kingston HyperX Fury 2x 4gb - DDR3-1866

CPU Cache Ratio same with CPU ratio (x46)

HELP

so having it stable in full manual is not good enough? shouldn't it be manual when overclocking, then adaptive when done tweaking?

can I still run a stress test after i've brought back the voltage mode to adaptive?

Cache/Uncore doesn't improve performance, and only hurts stability.

Set your cache/uncore to x38, and set cache/uncore voltage to an adaptive 1.050.

Ignore RAM overclocking, it has such a little impact on performance, and will only cause instability, just leave RAM at its normal XMP settings.

Go back to 4.6 @ 1.250v.  That is a very nice overclock.

My 4690k at 4.5ghz 1.25 runs at 96ºc (no, im not stupid enough to leave it like this...its currently at 4.2ghz 1.12v at 81ºc max)

One of these days I'm probably going to remount it to see if its the cpu or a bad mounting.

Is that 96C during Prime95?

Yeah, but the 81 is also from prime. It's also worth noting, its not 96 as the max, its 96 the second I start up prime95.

@djdwosk97

@bmwm3186

Prime95 is perfectly fine to use, you just have to set voltage to manual/constant/override first.  With any stress test, you should set your voltage to constant to avoid overvolting.

That is strange how it gets so hot so fast.  What are your temps like during gaming, like BF4? Can't hurt to try a remount. It could just be that you have a chip that runs hot.

I dont actually have bf4, my max temps in bf3 are like 60c though (4.2ghz @ 1.12v -- 81c max in p95)

Is your pump at 1300-1450rpm?

What speed are your fans at?

Ambient temps?

@80ºc my fans hit 60%, but when I did my intial test on fan speeds (albeit they were done at 4.2ghz 1.12v) I didn't notice any difference between 100% and 60%. The Seidon 240m isn't a variable speed pump. Ambient temps are 24ºc.

I can control the speed of my pump through Fan Xpert. Controllable range is 650-1450rpm.  Do you have your pump plugged into a molex for 100% continuous speed?  Or through a motherboard fan header?.  Try molex if you aren't doing so already.

I also run my fans at DC/Constant RPM, not PWM.  I like to control the speed of my fans completely.  They are always running at 1250rpm unless I change it myself.  Thats weird how you didn't notice a difference between fan speeds, I notice a big difference.

Check out my Review With Statistics of the Seidon 240M.  I put the cooler to the test using my i5-4670k at different voltages and fan speeds, it scales quiet linearly.  My ambient temperature is the same, 75F/23.8C.
