Good Enough Gaming CPU

Hi

What would be the best CPU for gaming considering games now use more than 2 cores, Athlon X4 760k, Athlon X4 860k, or the Pentium G3258? I also want to overclock CPU. Which one will be the best for its price point.

Games like BF4 with its Frostbite engine utilize 4 cores.

I would suggest the Pentium. But if you can, the Core i3 4150 because it has 4 threads.

The real component that will get you better fps is the gpu. B)

the pentium will botteeneck gpus kless on lowly threaded games but if they are amd games odds are they use more than two threads

I would say pentium, overclocked it's just as powerful in games as a 5960x with the exception of battlefield. Powerful cores over more cores for gaming. We will see if that changes in dx12.

The FX 6300 is similar around the same price, but FX is quite old and it doesn't have the performance to match the i3. However, I don't like i3 since it's not overclockable or unlock.

Yea. But the 4150 has a high stock clock and will preform better than any 6-core FX CPU.

Well multi threaded workload isn't good enough as I can't open a stream or forum with music stream and skype while gaming.

I don't usually play CPU oriented games, so I could go for the Pentium, but I want to multitask as well.

But the 4150 is a good CPU, but the FX still have better multi threaded performance if I recall.

Actually no, I guess everyone on the internet never looked up benchmarks for games on that cpu because it's a low end cpu. But when overclocked that thing keeps up with even cpu's like 4960x in games that use lots of threads like crysis 3. Battlefield 4 is the only game that I know of that it falls behind in.

The Unreal 3 Engine uses 4 cores.

That's a lot of games just there.

And with 8 core consoles, the amount of games that support 4 cores will keep rising. 

It's the games that use 8 cores that are rare.

But with Broadwell coming out next year and the LGA 1150 sockets will not be compatible.
