I would say pentium, overclocked it's just as powerful in games as a 5960x with the exception of battlefield. Powerful cores over more cores for gaming. We will see if that changes in dx12.

I would suggest the Pentium. But if you can, the Core i3 4150 because it has 4 threads.

The FX 6300 is similar around the same price, but FX is quite old and it doesn't have the performance to match the i3. However, I don't like i3 since it's not overclockable or unlock.

Yea. But the 4150 has a high stock clock and will preform better than any 6-core FX CPU.

Well multi threaded workload isn't good enough as I can't open a stream or forum with music stream and skype while gaming.

I don't usually play CPU oriented games, so I could go for the Pentium, but I want to multitask as well.

Still. Most games will use 4 cores. (Like rare games use 2 cores)

The 4150 will do you well for multitasking.

The Pentium only has 2 threads though. So games that utilize more than 2 cores will be bottlenecked on the Pentium.

Actually no, I guess everyone on the internet never looked up benchmarks for games on that cpu because it's a low end cpu. But when overclocked that thing keeps up with even cpu's like 4960x in games that use lots of threads like crysis 3. Battlefield 4 is the only game that I know of that it falls behind in.

Most games use 2 cores. There are very few that use 4 actually. I don't know if I even can think of 10 games that do.

yea i would reccomend it over the amd because of that an also the fact that it has a much longer and better upgrade path

The Unreal 3 Engine uses 4 cores.

That's a lot of games just there.

And with 8 core consoles, the amount of games that support 4 cores will keep rising.

It's the games that use 8 cores that are rare.
