Remove it gently, if you can't get it out yourself, ask someone who's calmer, nerves play with the mind a lot. Also, it's pretty difficult to kill pc parts unless you've been brute forcing everything and have forgotten about static altogether :)

Would it be a bad idea to lift it out using something like tape stuck to it and then hoisted out?

Oh great. I got it out but I touched the bottom of the CPU. Think it will still be ok?

Yeah, it should be fine, as I said before, it's quite difficult to damage a PC part, unless you were intentionally trying to damage it / ignoring ALL safety measures (eg. grounding yourself, don't build on carpet etc)
