Laptop Dropping FPS like crazy!

Hi,

 

My laptop has been dropping fps from around almost 100 fps to below 20, and with some games, has been going as low has under 10! This has been happening with all the games which I play, and makes the games unplayable, and I have no idea why

 

The laptop is a Dell XPS 15 2014 edition.

 

OS-Windows 8.1

CPU-Intel Core i7-4700HQ w Intel HD4600

RAM-16 GB

GPU-Nvidia GT750M

SSD-512 GB

 

As for the games this has been happening in; Driver San Francisco (this is a V-Sync issue which is impossible to fix), GRID (2007), GRID 2, NFS Hot Pursuit (2009), NFS The Run, NFS World, and EuroTruck Simulator 2. 

 

As for the GPU driver, it is 344.11, which GeForce Experience says is the latest.

 

NB-To measure the FPS, I have been using fraps.

 

If anybody could tell me the issue and a fix for it I'll be very grateful!!

Probably heat.

Maybe it is overheating, as a solution to that you could stick an eraser under the back and give it some extra breathing room.

I'm gonna think thermal throttling. If your laptop gets hot, it's gonna turn down it's speed/performance to prevent it from frying.

I'll give it a shot with the cooling mat I have lying around soon. But would thermal throttling really make the fps drop from around a 100 to like, 7?!

But atleast it won't shutdown, my laptop got really hot and it shutdown to prevent getting the cpu more hot.
