comcast got a guy fired

This makes me wonder where they will draw the line, if they ever do.  Basically, a guy named Conal was unhappy with his service becasue he was being charged for services he didn't have.  Conal was promised by a comcast rep that the issue would be solved but it only got worse.  "A few months later, the promotional discount shrunk and Conal’s monthly bill increased by $20, in addition to still being charged for unactivated devices in his house.  Comcast also twice charged him an additional $7 for a second modem he did not have.  Meanwhile, attempts to get a resolution from Comcast went unanswered."

So Conal tried to cancel his service but a comcast rep "convinced him that the billing issues would be resolved and that he would get free DVR service and The Movie Channel for three months as compensation."  It still gets worse from there "Comcast somehow managed to sink even lower than it had before, sending Conal about a dozen pieces of equipment that he didn’t order."  It turns out that comcast billed him $1,820 for the extra equipment.  It gets messier from there, he tried to go above their customaer service by contacting "the office of the company’s Controller. He spoke to someone in that office who promised Conal would receive a call back to address the issues."

Shortly after comcast contacted Conal's employer about the mess.  "This led to an ethics investigation and Conal’s subsequent dismissal from his job; a job where he says he’d only received positive feedback and reviews for his work."  From there it's a lot of he said she said about wether or not Conal used his place of work as leverage and that he was fired over an email his boss got from comcast that supposidly recounted the whole ordeal; but Conal was never shown the email.

I have to agree with the end of the article where it says "I think whether or not Conal mentioned his employer is beside the point. The problem should not have reached the point where he was even reaching out the Comcast Controller’s office.  Had the billing issues been fixed on the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth chance that he gave Comcast to address the issue, the call in question would never have happened.  And even if Conal did identify his employer in the hope of getting his billing issue fixed, he wouldn’t have been trying to get preferential treatment; just the service he’d paid for."

If you'd like a lot more information and in-depth coverage of the situation read Ars Technica's 2-page write up on the story (Ars actually interviewed the man in person and the write-up is really good). http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/10/comcast-got-me-fired-after-billing-dispute-says-california-man/

And this is another Ars Technica article in which Comcast responds due to the publicity the article received. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/10/comcast-treatment-of-upset-former-customer-completely-unacceptable/

Sounds like its missing some key points, I refuse to believe an employer would fire a good employee because Comcast called and told them to, absolutely no way it would happen.

Really, this sounds to me like a fake story made up by a guy pissed off at Comcast...
