Hi guys...

I have an laptop ASUS X55VD wich i enjoy to work with, but he had an problem in motherboard and he just wont boot to Bios post! So my father send it to repair, the guy told to me he changed the mobo to a new one.... But  the problem is: My Nvidia GPU is not available at all ! I tried all Windows OS (7 ; 8 ; 8.1) and tried even Ubuntu!! Any of these OS were not able to recognize the gpu chip ! I also had opened the laptop and the gpu was there but somehow it doesnt show any sings of life -.- !

In Device Manager doesn't show any unknown device, and shows only my Intergraded GPU (Nvidia Optimus = Intel Graphics + Geforce 610m) with all Windows OS i tried;

Cant install new drivers, because Nvidia cant find the graphics hardware compatible to the driver;

In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS only instaled the Intel Sandy Bridge GPU driver ! PS: Also instaled touchpad, keyboard... wich i was suprised but Nvidia, none;

I've attached an photo of my gpu chip

Do you know what it could be ?

Regards

:)

Intel Sandy Bridge GPU driver

"Sandy Bridge GPU driver" That alone is 100% wrong already. Either you mixed up what you mean or you have been told some useless shite.

For your GPU drivers go to this page http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and specifically select the GT610M. If you have tried that already then it sounds like a faulty GPU.

Your photo didn't attach. From my first impression: If the Nvidia drivers aren't detecting the dedicated GPU, its possible that heat from GPU may have caused some bad solder (BGA)  to actually lose contact with the motherboard.

This is of course if you had overheating issues. Did you?

On Linux, Nvidia optimus has to be manually configured. See: http://www.webupd8.org/2013/08/using-nvidia-graphics-drivers-with.html

and :http://askubuntu.com/questions/452556/how-to-set-up-nvidia-optimus-bumblebee-in-14-04

What happens in Windows? Can you show us a picture of the device manager in Windows. Use Imgur to share the screenshot.

"Sandy Bridge GPU driver"

what's wrong with that? he meant Intel HD 2000 / 3000 Driver. people use both the intel driver and Nvidia driver and use software to control which renders what type of program.

So that's what he meant. I seriously had no idea he was referring to the Intel HD graphics O_o

I'm not an expert on Nvidia Optimus, maybe go try asking on: http://ubuntuforums.org/

I don't have any laptops with Nvidia GPUs, so sorry for not being able to help further. Although, I really think you should try to install Windows for testing the GPU.

I'd get on the phone with that repair guy and see what he says. Better yet he may look at it and fix it free since it probably occurred from when he was fixing it the first time.
