Boot up steam to activates some keys and I get the "OMG CHECK OUT THIS" window and its like "Steam, now priced in Canadian $$$!". Obviously all this is really doing is changing the conversion of CAD-->US $ funds to before the game purchase instead of with your credit card or paypal.

But where are they getting their exchange rates for converting the game prices? Will this be updated semi-regularily to match fluctuating currencies? Anyone seen anything about that? All I get when I google is forum posts from 2010, and rage threads on reddit with no useful information.

devs and publisher control pricing on their games, not valve, probably the ones that raised a few buck is to cover exchange rate fees + conversion to have the same revenue vs usd, though i really don't know why valve did the switch to begin whit also aussies have it much worst btw

Good to know, I wasn't sure how the new prices were being added.

now they can charge tax. fuckfuckfuck things just got a whole lot more expensive

rip steam

Nope. No taxes. Assassin's Creed Franchise just went on sale and I didn't have any of them surprisingly enough so I went on a bit of a spending binge as I doubt they'll be lower than $5 anytime soon.

Buying a steam wallet card Will have tax now since its Canadian dollars.

A 50 American dollar card used to be 50 Canadian dollars.

Probably to get 50 American dollars in games will now be ~62 Canadian dollars.

It's not a good thing.

Then that's a poor choice of payment method. Don't want to pay those taxes then use a paypal account.
