what does 970 replace?

theam123

Hello guys.

As I'm buying gear for my computer in this very moment, and the only thing I need is a GPU.

The only GPU that I can buy and which can be delivered within the next few days is a MSI gtx 970. But it doesn't have a backplate.

Do you know any other GPU's which has a backplace? Doesn't have to be the MSI 970, but it can be in that pricerange

I have a 1440p monitor, that's why I'm getting the 970.

970 replaces the 780.  The Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 has a backplate.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

It bridges the gap between the 770 and 780.

Backplate is not at all necessary.

However I believe the Gigabyte G1 gaming 970 has a backplate.

How does it bridge the gap when it out performs the 780 90% of the time?

Evga will send you a free backplate if I recall. Possibly check their forums.

Zotac also have backplate. Where u from?

I'm from denmark

Wel the problem is that only one card is availble right now, which is the MSI gtx 970. And I'm ordering today.

So I need a replacement for the 970, and it has to have a backplate. Which is pretty much my only requirement. Also performs pretty good.

I'm playing arma 3, dayz, crysis, going to play the crew, BF4 bla bla so on, so I need some power

Because it doesn't beat the 780. That's how. Most tests have it square between the 770 and 780.

No, go check again. Stock 970's are on par with 780's and combine that with overclocking abilities of the 970, it gets up to 980 performance which already beats the 780ti, do your research even linus's reviews support what I said.

Go with Strix or Twin Frozr. The backplate on the Gigabyte one is really ugly.

Thanks a lot guys

I've bought Asus gtx 780. Not strix tho, was a bit too expensive.

I can finally get my computer back together.

My old computer got "destroyed" so I got money back from insurence today, so I had to order before 14:00 haha. But I got a nice computer which I'm happy with, and thanks again for helping me

Yeah, maybe in Linus' tests because they went hunting for a fabulous overclocker of a 780 that you're unlikely to get so they could make the 290 look shit in comparison.

I understood it to be that the 970 replaces the 770 and the 980 replaces the 780, respectively.

The fact that the 970 consistently edges out the 780 is just testament to the performance improvements made with the GM204 GPU. The cards that have similar performance across generations doesn't mean that is the card it replaces.

760 to 960

770 to 970

780 to 980 etc, etc....

There's just less of a performance gap between the X70 and X80 with this generation.

I think its intended to replace the GTX 770, but it compares so favorably to the last-generation cards that it actually displaced everything from the 770 to the R9 290X. Once we have an entire generation of cards on the market based on this standard, I think the GTX 970 will fall in line pretty much where the 770 did.

I have a Asus Strix at home at the moment....Testing my cousins new build...Very pretty looking card. Backplate is cool looking. Can't really figure out what Asus was thinking with the color scheme....Make primarily red MBs and make a GPU without a single red color on it.
