so I have a hp laptop with an and A8 apu inside. id like to install SteamOS on it since I got my new pc with win7 and id like to experiment with it.

 

do you guys know if it will work on it ? because iv heard that some hardware cannot support it. also how do I keep my version of windows 8 thats installed on the laptop ? do I just have to keep the key ?

dont do it, its just not work the effort.

do you want linux in gen. or just steam os?

no id like to have steamOs specificly. to play around in stream with my not that powerfull laptop

also use linux in general.

but will it work ?

Personally SteamOS is a waste of time for consumer products. Let Valve ship it with their own machines that they will optimize it for. I'd rather run Ubuntu 14.04.1 and just install Steam.

If you want to just mess around get it. But remember that steamOS is meant for vendors selling PC like consoles to provide controller friendly GUI for steam on the tv. Valve does  not prevent you from exiting steam and going to the desktop but it's stripped down so you will have to spend a lot of time installing additional packages to bring it upto the functionality of a desktop PC.

 

You could just get one of the Linux distros meant for desktop like solydk or Ubuntu. Steam will work on those and all the steamos games will work.
