The .inf file is corrupted or it is a faulty(dead) HDD. This could have happened with either the drive itself being messed up for a number of reasons or it can be just the board in the HDD case that has died. To be sure i would advise you carefully take out the HDD and connect it to a desktop via the SATA/IDE connector, which ever one you have.

photorec says that the main part of the drive has no partition. i thought it might be dead but every thing sounds normal.

Weren't you using it before this happened.....if so how can it not have a partition? weather it is simple volume or multiple partitions there is still a partition one you have used it for some file or what ever.

On another note, i would contact seagate's support as i have recently gotten an e-mail from seagate of my HDD firmware needs to be updated to the latest version yada yada, contact them and hear what they say.

cool. Now save your data and do do a proper re-formatting via Computer Management by right clicking My Computer and selecting Manage then Disk Management.
