MSI MPower 5.1 Surround?

Go to solution Solved by Volbet,

Well I checked out in some other forums and supposedly I would need to set it manually to 5.1 Dolby Digital Live inside the Realtek Audio Manager... The thing is this wasn't specifically for my mobo, it was for some other brand/make and where the option should be on mine I have nothing, there's no "check" to set Dolby Digital Live x.x

Have you tried to check the audio properties within Windows Playback devices? If you enable and then right-click on the S/PDIF tab ypu should get an option to enable Dolny Digital under properties.

A guide on how to do it:

Hi, I have a MSI Z77 MPower board and was wondering if its possible to get 5.1 surround through the on-board audio (Using the optical audio output, to a 5.1 surround sound receiver).

If so, how would I do it, I've looked around in every settings I could find, and some googling and haven't been able to find anything is it just not there?

Will I have to buy an audio card?

Thanks!

I can't find anything about it, but is is rare for the motherboard manufactures to enable DTS/DLL/DTS-C on there motherboards, but if you want to you can try and read the spec sheet of your onboard audio chip (i am assuming its the Z77 MPower you have) http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/datasheets/ALC898_DataSheet_0.60.pdf

DTS/DLL/DTS-C are some standard protocols for digital surround sound.

And no need to excuse. There is nearlly never stupid questions.
