BIOS Boots up blank

My MSI Z77A-g43 board's bios doesnt seem to be working. This is the screen that comes up when I try to boot into bios.

Turn off your computer and clear the cmos as per the mobo's instructions

I cleared out the CMOS, but it still boots to that.

You may have screwed up your bios chip, can you still boot into windows?

Actually, surprisingly enough I can boot into windows. I've been using my board with the bios like this for about a year. Since I'm thinking about setting up an ssd boot drive, I tried to get into bios and this screen keeps showing up. Maybe its an issue with my graphics card?

Now I have had an idea but in the current status of your bios, it may be dangerous and I think you should wait until someone else backs me up on this. As far as I can tell you can update your bios through windows like mine can and this may fix things but it could also make things work again. Just putting it out there.

How did you update your bios? I heard that using the MSI Live updater is supposedly bad.

Is there anyway to update the bios without going into the bios? From everything I've see it looks like I have to have a working bios for me to update it.
