So, out of curiosity I decided to get the average frame rates from a few games, and then turn on "Optimal" mode to see if it would make a difference, and instead of 3.4Ghz (3.811Ghz max 1 core) on a 3570k it went up to 4.2Ghz, didn't notice a difference so I changed it back to "Normal"....only problem is the OC is still there and will not go away....suggestions?

Have you tried putting the settings back to default?

Bios default.

No, although I may have settings in there I would like to keep so I'm reluctant to do that...here's the story: Everything in it is new but the hard drive, I took it out of my old computer and it was..."restored to dissimilar hardware" without formatting it or anything...so I'm not 100% sure that it would be a good idea to do that, could be talking outta my A** though not sure.

Just go into your multiplier and set it to 38..Or set system default in bios..It should not change anything important..Plus when i go into my Sabertooth bios every time it ask if i want to load previous values..So even if you mess it up you can go back in and reload previous values..If yours is like mine at least..

I hope you can fix your problem without much hassle but it's generally recommended to reinstall windows to make sure the drivers are all working fine.

Update: Fixed it, the reset to default got rid of the "optimal" (yeah right) mode and I'm back to stock frequency, although I had to deal with the messed up hard drive as I explained above..if I hadn't been such a ding dong and recorded the BIOS changes that were made to get it to run I could have avoided all of this....oh well, first time for everything right?
