G3258 OC PC

Go to solution Solved by ComradeHX,

You can save by getting single stick of ram, a cheaper case, and maybe bump the gpu up to R9 270(mantle helps).

And omit the cpu cooler.

Since our teachert supports us pretty strong in building our own pc, I thought this would be the perfect time to get myself a Pentium G3258 OC rig. I really wanted to get my hands on one of these things since it came out, but never had a good reason for that. Here's what I've come up so far. I don't know if I will acutally use it for gaming so the GPU doesn't matter.

Because I want to use it was a kind of portable PC, since my main PC is heavy and bulky as shit.

What reason do I have to get a more expensive mobo? I've heard of people reaching the 4.6Ghz I want to get with this exact mobo.

I once had one of these, now I've got this.

OC is really depending on the CPU, and is random. The same model of CPU can get to 4.5 for 1 user may not even able to break 4.0 for another user, so I wouldnt count on it..

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

I knew that. Just is there another reason to get z97 instead of h81?

well you don't have to spend more its just you never know if intel will patch it and make it so you can't overclock on anything other than a z97 motherboard but you don't have too get one everything is fine how it is

Z97 is supposedly confirmed to work with Broadwell while h81 isn't.
