Hi Guys, This is my first build.

I plan to plan a wide variety of games including Far Cry.

Budget

$2000

Parts

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/v6JJBm

Monitor is needed, peripherals not needed.

Any help is appreciated.

Seem ok, but the PSU is overkill. For 1 970 you will only need a 500-550W PSU, if you plan to go SLI later on then 700-750W is enough as well

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

Cheaper HDD

Cheaper PSU. The cheapest 520W semi modular is the same price (Antec HCG) so you might as well go for the higher watt EVGA below.

You won't be able to sli with that board though, as it doesn't support it.

Get another 970 , EVGA fucked up the cooler on this one , and only 2 out the 3 heatpipes that are supposed to make contact on the gpu actually make contact ( not a huge problem , but it makes the other companies more appealing ) .  I personally like asus's strix

Also if @MongyGorp really wants a high efficiency and/or fully modular PSU then go for a Corsair RM550 (or more Watts if you want to prepare for a future SLI). http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-rm550

Also I personally really like Gigabyte's new cooler for the 970, plus it is the best performer it seems both in terms of noise and temps. But I think people are making out the EVGA cooler to be worse than it is so if you really want that one for whatever reason then it's fine.

The Corsair RM is overpriced for a 550W though. You can get the EVGA Supernova G2 750W for $143.

Good point, although I much prefer Corsair's flat cables (I have both a Supernova G1 650W and RM 550 in different computers) and when you consider how much a cable kit costs it justifies the cost. Don't get me wrong, EVGA's cables are fine (as long as you don't mind the red GPU cables) just the Corsair ones are nicer.

However if @MongyGorp likes EVGA's cables just fine and does want a modular PSU then a 750G2 would be fine. Both are great choices depending on if you are prioritising Wattage or after aesthetics.

The G1 and G2 have different cables as they are made by two different oem's.

The G1 is made by FSP whereas the G2 is made by Superflower. The cables with the G2 are all black.

I didn't know that - worth remembering! Corsair's flat ones are still nicer though  ;)
