You could also go with a non overclockable CPU, like the 4590 and save about 70 bucks. Then you would also be able to leave out the h100i.

or you just don't oc at the beginning and use the stock cooler till you have more money to spend. The last option is what I would do, since upgrading later would cost you more money when selling another CPU  to get something more powerful.

You don't need and overclocked i5 for gaming. There is only little difference at that level of performance.

This is about as far as I could go without compromising performance. If you need to go lower, you'll either have to consider dropping the watercooling or get a different GPU...

Say I swapped the i5 for a pentium g3258 and keep the h100i. Would that bottleneck the 970 if I over clock the Pentium?

That makes no sense for me.

An expensive cpu and cooler combination vs just a cpu. Both cost similarly, but the last one is much more powerful. The i5 is by far the better cpu.

If you just buy the i5 now, you will not lose money when changing to your initial plan. If you have to switch the cpu. ...well no one will pay you the money you initially spent on the Pentium.

EDIT: and the Pentium should be a bottleneck
