if you are gaming on a single 1080p monitor than 1 670 2gb will be great. i almost think a 690 is useless, a sli setup which is a 690 is best for multi monitor or high res monitors but once you crank up the settings you hit the vram wall and bam 690 useless cause you need more vram and thats where the 4gb cards come in handy.

on the top of the pages is a table showing 1280x1024,1600x1200,1920x1200,and 2560x1600.

2560x1600 would have about the same fps as 2560x1440.

23 fps on metro 2033

38fps on bf3

37fps on crysis with high res texture packs

so for 2560x1440 I'd say sli gtx 670's,maybe 4GB versions if you plan on using texture packs and maybe changing to a dual or triple monitor setup.

or if your fine with AMD they tend to do better at multi-monitor setups and are cheaper, you could buy a 7970 for the price of a gtx 670,and you'd get much more performance out of it as it beats even the gtx 680.

those 2 670 4gb will run that monitor perfectly and even get 60 fps at max settings, i have same monitor and evga 680 ftw 4gb cards in sli and i run everything smooth except for metro 2033, that game requires so much power, the real test for my 680s will be crysis 3 at max setting.

you gotta start the mission over and get back to the same spot faster so that you have more oxygen left, trust me it's happened to me dozens of times.

I'd go with 2x 7970's personally since they have no over-volting cap like nvidia cards.also the 7970's outperform gtx 670's and gtx 680's...so.

but if you need nvidia then 2xgtx 670's over a single gtx 680 for sure.the difference between the two is about 5-10%.
