It's a well known fact that this generation of consoles are weaker than people expected and wanted. The entire TV industry is moving towards 4K while the current consoles are struggling to run 1080p..

 

 

I don't think that there will be dedicated game consoles 10 years from now. Consoles generally attract the "simple gamers" (the ones who just want to play a game without worrying about settings/configuration/etc). I would expect that as phone hardware progresses, most average gamers will migrate over to phones and mobile devices for the simple games, while the dedicated hardcore audience will be attracted to PCs.

 

It is true that the PC industry is slowing down, but you have to realize that it's mainly slowing down at the lower end. The people who used to buy PCs just for email are now buying phones and tablets for that.. PC gaming, however, is on the rise. High end hardware continues to sell well as newer and better things continue to push the industry forward..

 

We don't need to give up, nor do we need to go out and attack consoles. All we need to do is continue to educate the console gamers who are curious about PCs, and let the rest happen on its own.

PC gaming is growing and we need to continue to convince others that it's generally a more superior experience. I think lowing power consumption is a good thing, even for desktops, as long as it doesn't compromise performance. I agree that we get a lot of poor ports which is why we need to stop buying games that have them, unfortunately I don't see this happening any time soon as there are too many ill-informed consumers that fall for BS marketing.

From all the stuff I've seen, PC Gaming is on the rise. While yes, some people will still go consoles and that market is still pretty big, more people are moving over to PC.

So: No. I don't think we should give up, PC Gaming and the PC crowd in general is one of the most diverse group of people I've ever interacted with and while we do have those people we'd rather just ignore, we also have some of the most interesting and fun people I've had the pleasure of talking/gaming/whatever-ing with.

Laptops and tablets are different

If someone buys them, probably they do not want the PC/console games

Take a look at the console line up. no matter which one. there is only a handful of exclusives. Like the Forza/GT series, then we will have Project cars. Destiny will come to PC probably. Halo, order 1886 and the xboxes quantum... something and basically that is it

Back in xbox 360 and PS3 I was envying consoles as they had soo many good looking exclusives. but there is only a few yet, I do not expect many more.
