Hey guys, I just got my BenQ XL2420Z today, it's a 144Hz monitor. It's connected to my 550 Ti via Dual-Link DVI (my 970 arrives on Monday, don't worry about it being underpowered). Unfortunately I'm having a lot of issues with it regarding refresh rate. If I have the monitor clocked at 144Hz, then I get insane lag on the desktop and in games. What's weird is that the games actually are outputting 300fps (specifically a Source game), it just feels like the monitor is clocked at 15Hz or some insanely low number. It happens across all my monitors. The weirdest part is, disabling Aero actually completely fixes it. With Aero off the performance is as expected, but consistently as soon as I turn it back on, I get insane lag again, even on the desktop, across all monitors.

Any ideas?

If playing games across multiple displays, all monitors will run at lowest refresh rate. The lag you're having doesn't sound like a refresh problem. Sounds more like CPU or RAM problem.

that depends on what they are playing, if it happens just in anything fullscreen, it could be improper settings for the driver, in Control Panel for nvidia, or control center for AMD

and they also didnt state if its in surround mode or something like that, so it should not be assumed that it is and the other monitors is causing the issue, i use a ASUS VG248 144hz as my main monitor as it only can do Nvidia 3d vision, and my other monitor is extended at 60hz, and when i play games the other monitor stays at 60, and my main is either 120 or 144 depending on if im playing 3d vision games or not

Have you tried limiting the FPS ingame and seeing if that fixes it? Usually Vsync or if the Source game supports it, go into console and use this command;

fps_max 144

I have noticed in certain games like CS:GO that if you have Vsync or your FPS is too high it'll start lagging due to input lag. Usually putting a hard cap can fix this issue.

If not, double check the Nvidia control panel and see if the settings are wrong for your monitor and make sure your drivers are up to date.

No, only on the center monitor. All other panels are running at 75Hz. CPU is an i5 2500k @ 4.5GHz, RAM is 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600. I highly doubt it's these.

What's weird is it isn't only just the game. It happens on the Aero desktop, too. Video watching is horrible (specifically the WAN show last night), but it isn't related to GPU stress because even moving windows around is extremely choppy with Aero on.

leave aero off if that works, what about the stats for the rest of your monitors, are they all the same as your main in this topic, or different?

Like above, they're both 1024x1280 75Hz, to the left and right of my main display. I have more but I've disconnected them for troubleshooting.

It's not a game issue, it's an overall setup issue. I don't use VSync because 1. vsync is horrible, and 2. I run borderless windowed. Even with a frame cap to reduce input lag though, it wouldn't explain 15Hz. Driver up to date and settings are fine for the monitor. Again, it works fine with Aero off.

Could this possibly be related to Lucid Virtu? I currently power three displays, but since I have a 550 Ti, I only power two displays from the GPU - the other two (one is disconnected right now) are from the motherboard. Could that be where this lag resides?

maybe, or it could just be a bad install of windows, or corrupted files since it works fine with aero off, is it intel onboard graphics? and what series if it is?
