I'm really wanting to get a Ducky Shine 3 but I've never had a mechanical keyboard before!

I haven't been able to find any stores that actually have demos of mechanical keyboards where I live (SE suburbs of Vic, Aus) so I can't compare them.

The closest thing I've found is the Razer Blackwidow 2014 model with their "clicky" keys (as the box has the arrow keys open) which is how I've decided on either the blues or the browns because I loved the feel from them.

My main concern is if I'm sharing a house and my keyboard will be in a shared area so I don't want to piss people off from a loud keyboard :P

The clicky noise and feel is really satisfying so are the blue switches too loud or do you lose any of that feel if using the browns?

Thanks!

This site gives a really good explanation of the Browns, Blues and also Reds.

Basically the Blues are for typists, Reds are for gamers, and Browns are the ground in-between.

I find that Reds give quite a bad typing experience, so next keyboard I'm going for will have Browns just because Blues will be too much for gaming, but satisfying enough when I'm on LTT.

It's really up to you, if you want a quiet keyboard then membrane ones are the quietest.  Cherry MX blues are probably the loudest switch type with their clicky-ness, browns are better but they are not exactly 'silent'

You can read reviews and look at spec sheets if you want, but the best way of knowing what's right for you is to try them out in person.

If you are worried about noise get the Browns. I use Browns at work and Blues at home.

Blacks and reds are good for gaming only, bad for typing. Blues are good for typing bad for gaming. Browns are in the middle and good for both. Its also personal preference though.

That's complete bullshit. :P

I love my blues for gaming, and they're completely fine for anything I do (play starcraft fairly competitive), browns are only easier to press is the only actual difference for gaming.

Blacks are supposed to be ''best'' because you can doubletap the best with blacks/reds considering they're linear. It is 100% personal preference IMO.

I love StarCraft

Oh really? Its bullshit? Please enlighten me then oh wise one. The german company who designed cherry MX switches said they designed them exactly like that.

No, they simply designed different versions for different people. There's no ''gaming'' switches. It just so happens a lot of people prefer certain switches for gaming or that some games benefit from pressing a button a lot in a row.

I love StarCraft

Blues also feel a bit more tactile than browns. Blues have a really crisp actuation, while browns have a soft bump.

And about the argument about certain switches for certain things, unless you have insane APM, or are using Clear or Grey switches, they are all very good for gaming. None will give you a competitive edge, or really make that much of a difference, because a hard or fast press on ANY switch will feel identical. I would know I have, and use, them all.
