Can the shield tablet LTE do this?

Since the shield tablet LTE is coming out in a few days. And since it supports a lot of carriers on its 4g lte network. Do you have to get a 4g lte data plan from one of its supported carriers? Or can it connect to any of their data towers free? Thanks for any help!!!!

Why would you want to get a lte plan for a tablet? Just setup a wifi point on your phone and connect to that and share the internet through that.

Not all plans allow that to happen, plus if you can buy a LTE tablet to begin with then you also save your phone's battery during extended periods of use.

I don't want to get a separate plan. I'm just asking if its required for the tablet, or if it gets free data by using the closest tower it supports.
