I want to run a Linux OS on my next build, particularly steam OS; Is there anything to look out for when choosing parts? Thanks for any help. :)

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

Be aware, some games will not run on Linux.  So bear that in mind

I have already checked, the games I like playing all have linux support. Anything else?

Apart from some very specific expansion cards (wireless, NICs, raid controllers, etc) every modern device will have compatibility for most Linux distros.

Bear in mind, SteamOS is not only on an early stage, but it also is meant for HTPCs, not for your main desktop rig. You should try other OSs, like Mint and Ubuntu first.

I would recommend using a desktop OS like Ubuntu over SteamOS. Ubuntu 14.10 is on its way and Canonical has already started pushing Mesa 10.3 to the build which looks to be great for AMD cards.

You'd probably chose proprietary drivers over these tho especially for gaming.

I'd recommend sticking to the LTS editions of Ubuntu if you are new to Linux, the latest of which is 14.04. If you move to things like 14.10 the you only have a very short period of time for security updates and patches. Plus the LTS editions of the operating system is super stable, though compared to windows the interim releases are still really stable.

Id recommend another distro + steam, steamOS isnt very feature complete.

Yeh, steer clear of steamOS for now, as well as that, if your just starting out on Linux you'll need the most help you can get and with so few people on steamOS it'll be harder to find people to help you out.

Yeah, installing Steam is pretty straight forward on Ubuntu based distro's as well.

sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install steam
