just a quick background as ive just joined recently I have been sick of the lag I get on my laptop while gaming on things like csgo, dayz (11 fps if im lucky heh) and many more but too many to name, so my girlfreind was asking about doing a custom build for her and i thought well crap why don't I do one too?

so ive asked around to friends and gamers i play with on servers and such and a recent mate told me to come on here and talk to you guys, with my build i have it setup as not a minimal but not a all out build as i want something that will operate decently while i can still build it up in the future, thus i want to do water cooling so im not constantly changing the airflow and replacing fans and wiring them (had enough of that with a amplifier in a sound system dont ask)

I want to do a kind of portal theme on the inside and i have researched and seen i may need to change the tubing every couple of years or so as well as orings for the fittings, but thats why i got the orange and clear tubing so it will be orange on some parts and blue on others or orange on the parts were it will be hot to the radiator then blue were it would be cold to be figured out later when i start the build, also i am going to do a filling and dumping valves for the reservoir which will explain the extra fittings

the link below is the loop and build i plan on making and buying over a 2 month period i want to know from you guys should i use barbed connection with clamp or just compression fittings pros and cons of this build any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated thanks!

Don't water cool a 270X.... Take the money you'd spend on water cooling and use it on better hardware.

sorry it might not of been explained in what i said but the point of doing water cooling now is so i can just get that done out of the way despise being pointless or op for the system when i upgrade in the future the loop is already there and able to be modified this is just my first build i have ever done and plan to add alot in the future and upgrade to better and more recent hardware

Yeah but you'd have to spend money for two things when you upgrade. It's not worth it. Get a great system now and work on the water cooling later. You'll end up saving money.

Are you sure you want to give up a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of performance just for a nice looking computer?

well for now yes untill i upgrade it in the future like i said this build is only temporary im not going to keep it like this plus when i do upgrade will probably just try to sell off the old parts or use them to slowly build up another build and sell that

look im just asking about the loop not if i should have it or not

Your method seems flawed. If anything LCing a system is more costly/more effort as any changes you make to the system require a full drain of the loop + new waterblock (for a new GPU). Vs just changing a fan or two.

well by the time i do upgrade it would be a good excuse too put in new coolant and check orings and such, i love the tinkering maintence and extra effort, ive worked on speedway cars for 4 years plus my own car from 1977 this kind of expensivish tinkering is what i love doing :)

Ehh if you are going to have a water cooled system, don't get a 270x.

oh? what would you recommend as its a first build i want cheap but not the cheapest but worth the money

Get a 270x by all means but dont LC it for now. Keep your loop to CPU only (for now). Save up for a beast of a GPU (AMD's new 390x/980gtx + block) and then extend your loop.

You get to do your expensive tinkering then :D

awesome mate exactly the feedback i was hoping for :)

as for links does anyone have preferences for compression or barbed?

also would it be flawed to do up 2 separate lines to the loop, one into and one out of the reservoir so i can empty or fill the system with out taking the whole thing out?

If you're hell bent on throwing a blocked 270x you may as well consider a used gtx 590/680/770 hydrocopper if you can hunt one down, most come with a lifetime warranty from EVGA and the block is already installed for you.

As for compression vs. barbed, compression, always compression. The only exception to that would be specialized fittings like stop/drain plugs, T-junctions, etc.

Brands, EK and Bitspower are all I will ever use again. Hated Monsoon, PrimoChill fittings are a joke (love their tubing though), and Enzotech's fittings leave something to be desired in the fit and finish department -although they do get the job done and they are cheap.

If this is your first loop just make sure none of the components contain aluminum and go with copper/acetal as much as possible. For the liquid itself I'm a big proponent of using something like Primochill's sysprep (flush the entire gallon) and use only distilled water (with another gallon flush before final fill). If you really want colored liquid in your loop as opposed to colored tubing make sure to read the warning messages on every marketed bottle, most will have a "use for a maximum of X months" prominently displayed somewhere and you can fully expect to have to flush a mountain of crap out of the system by that end date. Depending on the brand there may be staining/residue left behind, just make sure to do your research beforehand.

  • 2 weeks later...

ive changed it around abit so its a little bit more necessary for water cooing :)

I see that :o

Is the single 120x30mm rad a mistake? because that will not be enough...

For the 290x alone the minimum rad I would go with is a 240x45mm...add another one for the CPU, ideally you would have one 360x30 or 45 and an additional 240x45 (or 2 240x45's).
