Hello everyone.

I was planning on waiting till the 980 or 980ti cards came out but I managed to get my hands on an 'Asus GTX 780ti DirectCU II' two weeks ago for a bargain price. This was a massive upgrade for my pc and I couldnt be happier with the performance... Until I began to hear a low sounding whine whilst having some of my games open. When I ran the same games in windowed mode I found the whine sound only can be heard when the game is in the forground, if I left clicked the taskbar across the bottom of my screen the sound dissapears.

Has anyone else had this issue before or know how I can fix this? I have updated the latest bios/gpu tweak software

Average/good temps on GPU+MB+CPU+case

Not been overclocked

Default settings for GPUtweak and Nvidia control panel

Regards Chris

It's probably whining because 980 took the crown.

Jokes aside, it could be some loose stuff inside but IIRC this was the case with ACX coolers. Never heard about whining issues with DC2 coolers...

EDIT: Don't ever remove the cooler to tinker with it as doing this would void your warranty. Only EVGA allows doing this without voiding the warranty. (afaik)

Maybe it's just the sound of the fans spinning up. Try using msi afterburner to manually speed up the fans and see if you can repeat the same noise. In that case, it's nothing to worry about.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

You can give it a couple of days more. Coil whine is annoying but nothing new. I´ve had this as well on one of my GTX780 Ti s and it went away after a couple of days, but that doesn´t count for everybody and depends on how bad it is.

Worst case RMA the card and hope on a better sample.

Sounds like coil whine. Nothing you can do really.

I have a feeling this is what im hearing. Sounds like its singing a song. Did not have this sound with my previous card (EVGA 760 /w ACX cooler). Might try to limit my fps to 120/144 and see if this helps. If a game is not graphically demanding there is no reason to have it any higher.

Could changing the PSU help with this issue? I have been planning to get a new power supply when I replace the case and setup a water loop.

Well coils can whine in a PSU too but no, it probably won't fix the problem with your GPU's coils whining. It's also not related to how demanding an application is either - I had a card that would only ever whine in the menu of Audiosurf, and never at any other time.
