I have an old board that I'm working on.

It's the ASUS P5B (with latest bios 2104). I have installed Windows 7 x64 using a bootable USB drive but when windows is installed, nothing I plug into a USB port is recognized (keyboard, mouse, flash drive).I used a PS/2 KB & mouse when installing.

Here's what I've tried so far:

The board will boot from every USB port using my bootable flash drive. (4 onboard, 2 front)

I've uninstalled all USB ports from device manager & restarted.

I've taken the board out of the case to eliminate it being a shorting issue.

I've tried changing settings in the bios to see if that would help (disabled floppy, com port, LPT1 port)

Does anyone have any ideas why USB ports don't seem to work with Windows 7?

Check the front I/O connectors, and then if that doesn't work then your usb ports have probably fried. On my old motherboard this happened though mine was an Asrock board.

This is my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right and is liable to change at any time. I may offend of which I apologize in advance.

I have installed the chipset drivers, didn't help.

The USB ports were functioning initially because I was able to install drivers that I had on a USB flash drive. I also installed Asus bios update software to update to the latest bios. I left the system for a week because I had other stuff to do. I didn't notice the USB ports were not responding at that time.

The next thing I am going to try to do is go back to an older bios and see if that makes any difference.
