Keep multi display arrangement with displays powered off

Vedge

I'm maintaining several workstations used for 2D and 3D CAD. The one in question has an Nvidia Quadro K4000 and two Dell displays connected over DisplayPort-MiniDispalyPort cables. Whenever I power off one of the displays, everything merges over to the other screen.

Most programs return to normal once both displays are powered on, but not all. A quick search in Google told me that this is a common windows limitation. Did anyone else have to deal with this behaviour? Any advice would be appreciated

The Wannabe is no longer. Replaced by the Flotilla. If you replace every part of a computer is it still the same computer?
