Windows 8 Upgrade Key

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

Windows Upgrade can only be installed and used on one computer at a time.  Therefore if you want it on it your new computer, assuming you have a previous version of Windows that is no longer in used, you need to remove Windows 8 there first (format the drive, put back the old Windows that was there before), and now you can upgrade your new computer OS to Win8.

I have a Windows 8 Upgrade key that I got when Windows 8 first came out. I have it installed on my laptop at the moment, but I will be building a computer this summer. I was wondering if there is a way that I could use the upgrade key as a full operating system and avoid having to buy a brand new OS for my build. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The only thing I'll say is:

 - You can do a clean install of Windows 8 Upgrade

 - You can transfer your license no problem, although a phone activation might be required (takes 5min, it's just a machine that you punch a serial number that will appear on the activation box, and type in an override code given by the machine on the activation box)

 - But you need a previous version of either: XP, Vista or 7 not being used, or will no longer be used (check your old computer?!)

I don't really understand what you mean to transfer the license. (Sorry, I'm not great with that stuff )

Ok, makes more sense now!  :)

My computer came with Windows 7, so I will be able to do what you said.

Thanks for the answer!
