780Ti to 980

Hey LTT, 

I have been thinking about upgrading from my 780Ti to a 980 this Christmas. My two options would be:

Get the 980 and a waterblock

or

Get a surface pro 3 and not have to carry around my M14x at school.

 

Is this a good upgrade? I feel a little guilty considering I only got my 780Ti in March.

 What do you guys think? What would you pick?

780Ti is still a beast. I don't think that it is worth it.

Don't worry about upgrading as the increase in performance is not very significant.

There is little to no point considering the performance gap, unless you can get one from EVGA's Step Up program and get the Surface Pro 3 or a MacBook Air.

No way, the 780TI sometimes beats the 980. You still have a great card unless you want the power saving feature.

i would buy the surface. overclocked there isnt much of a difference between 780ti and 980 in raw performance.

I kind of wanted the overclocking of the 900 series. My 780Ti struggles at 1300 under water.

There would be a very small performance boost, and less power consumption and heat output. Not worth it.

Not worth the upgrade to a 980, however dual 970's would be a great upgrade.
