Pc won't boot with GPU

Go to solution Solved by brokencross,

yes, i think this is the case

sorry, if this all sounds stupid (it probably does)

So you were basically plugging the vga cable all this time to the board itself, right?

If that is the case then yeah, your card is fine. You were using the integrated gpu in your cpu.

Just get a dvi to d-sub adapter and that's it.

Hello guys! I'm new here, and just building my first custom PC atm. I have a big problem.

This are my specs:

CPU Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage Toshiba 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 3GB WINDFORCE Video Card

Case Cooler Master N300 ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Monitor LG 22MP55HQ-P 60Hz 22.0" Monitor

I assembled components (without any bigger problems) and was ready for the first ever boot. I noticed that fans start normally, but no beeps, no Bios, only "no signal" sign on the display. After some experimenting i discovered that system will start normally if I disable (pull power cords out of it, or just unistall ) the graphic card. I already tried reinstalling the graphic card on the motherboard twice, and i don't think this is the problem. Do you guys have any other ideas of what might fix the problem?

Thank you for all your help and suggestions in advance!

(p.s. please don't tell me that i got a faulty graphics card)

So essentially you can boot your pc if the aux power cables aren't plugged in but the card still sits in the pci. Right?

Yes, if the card is inserted, but its not plugged to power, the system still works just fine.

And no, I didn't put the monitor cable into the graphics card because it doesn't have the VGA slot (only motherboard has it)

Yeah well, it's quite difficult to see anything on the monitor if you don't have it plugged in.

Okay, ill go buy one tomorrow morning. Thanks for now, I'll inform you if it works

I still don't get it how you say it works if the aux power cables aren't plugged in, but doesn't if they are.

Please clarify.

If my GPU is powered (connected with the 6 and 8 pin power connector) and fans start spinning when i turn the pc on, the only thing i get is "no display" on my monitor. If my GPU is just sitting in its slot on the motherboard, but it itsn't connected to the power source, the system will start normally. (I'm guessing the system uses integrated motherboard's GPU since r9 is disabled).

you sure it's just not using on board rather than the GPU?

Bought the adapter, plugged it in and everything works like it should. Thanks!

I just have one more question. After installing the drivers, I noticed that i can't find the option to change resolution to 1920x1080. Max res i can select is 1600x900. Would any of you guys have an idea on how to solve this problem.

EDIT: Reinstalled both display and graphics card drivers again, now i can see the 1920x1080 resolution option, but when i select it, the display goes black and shows "d-sub out of range" error. Any ideas?
