Hey guys, i want a new graphics card but i cant choose. My motherboard only supports croosfire and not SLI, http://www.gigabyte.ie/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4015#sp. I currently have a GTX 560 ti but i want to be able to run  BF4 on max settings. I originally was going to SLI the 560 ti but then i realised i bought the wrong mobo so i was thinking of getting the GTX 770 for €400 or 2 HD7950's for €500 but i have heard bad things about the 7950's in crossfire, please give me your opinions.

My specs:Fractal Define R4, i5 2550k, Asus GTX 560ti 2GB, Samsung 840 pro 120GB SSD, 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM ,Seagate Barracuda 2TB, Corsair 600w PSU

I would recommend you to spend your money on an used 6870/6950. They are a bit older, but they work pretty damn well. I have an 6950 and I can play any game at high-max settings on FullHD resolution. With the rest of the money you can buy yourself some nice gaming gear :D

i wouldnt do any multi gpu setup on that motherboard as it is only a x4 lane in the second one and the first would x16

btw what other hardware do you have to make sure you dont have a bottleneck

I'd say get a single GTX 770 or 780 if you can afford it. There's no point in getting older cards for newer games. By the time you can afford to SLI the GTX 770 or 780, you should be able to afford a system that supports SLI. ;)

Really TechnoGeek? HD6870/6950? He has a GTX 560Ti. The HD6870 would be a downgrade and the HD6950 would be more of a sidegrade.

The TI has 192 bit and 1GB/2GB of memory which is not that good. The 6950 has 2GB GDDR5 and 256 bit which is much better and if he wants a Crossfire build he could go anytime for a second 6950. ATI is much better then Nvidia at gaming.

/facepalm

Since when did the memory specifications of a graphics card determine the overall gaming performance? Heck even a GTX 650Ti Boost can beat that HD6950. Get with the times. He's already considering getting a modern day GTX 770 and you're recommending an outdated AMD equivalent of what he already has? As for CrossFire scaling and frame rating of that older card that uses older outdated drivers, that would be a horrible gaming experience especially on a newer and more demanding game such as BF4. As an ATI fanboy, you could have at least recommended him a HD7970 with the Never Settle Bundle. -_-

why would he buy a card that is a generation older and that is worse than his current card .

From what Linus has taught me, Always go for the Single GPU option. It's cheaper and uses less electricity as well as gives off less heat.

Setup: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz, Corsair H100i Cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB Ram @ 1600 Mhz, MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard, Corsair GS700 2013 edition PSU, MSI GTX 770 Lightning, Samsung EVO 120 SSD + 2TB&1TB Seagate Barracudas, BenQ XL2411T Monitor, Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones + AntLion ModMic 4.0

Ok guys, i think ill go for a GTX 770 or wait for the GTX 760 ti, you can see my specs in my signature, im definately not buying a 6950, too old and not a big difference from my current card. Pity i bought a bad motherboard, i might also wait for the AMD 8000 series.

My specs:Fractal Define R4, i5 2550k, Asus GTX 560ti 2GB, Samsung 840 pro 120GB SSD, 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM ,Seagate Barracuda 2TB, Corsair 600w PSU

The 6950 is no different from your GTX 560Ti, they are pretty much on par with each other. Based on old benchmarks, the GTX 560Ti 448-Core definitely beats it.

Also the 560Ti uses a 256-bit GDDR5 interface while the 448-Core uses a 320-bit interface. Like I said... sidegrade.

I think i might actually go with a 7970, the price is at around €350 compared to €400 for a 770 and i get 4 awesome games from the never settle bundle. in a year or so when my the card is getting sluggish i can buy another 7970 for crossfire and the price will be a lot lower because of the 8000 series cards. My parents will be getting the 560 ti for a build i will be doing for them when their 13 year old dell dies (or i kill it!). if you think any of this is a bad idea than just tell me.

If you want to save money, you can get a 7950 like a MSI Twin Frozr 3 and HIS IceQ X2 can be overclocked to beat the reference 7970. :)

As long as you're ok with this:

* The PCIEX16 slot operates at up to x4 mode when AMD CrossFireX™ is enabled.

I don't think that would be a great idea due to micro stuttering.  If you're going to spend approximately 600 on 2 gpus, I would say it would be better to get something like a 780.

i will go with the two 7950 in crossfire (6GB GDDR5 and 384bits)

Effing wait till the game release, no one here own a time machine nor a prophet. The BF4 gameplay demo was ran maxed out on 2x HD7990s, maybe you can save your money and buy those instead.

Normally, when you use a single GPU solution the PCI Express x16 slot operates at full 16x bandwidth. When you use a dual GPU solution the bandwidth is split into 8x for the first GPU and 8x for the second GPU. Since your second PCI Express x16 slot operates at 4x the bandwidth, it seems to limit the first PCI Express x16 slot to operate at 4x as well when using CrossFireX. That makes 4x for the first GPU and 4x for the second GPU.

Maybe someone can explain this better for me if you still don't understand it. Someone like Linus:

yes, your motherboard have

1 PCIe x16 "3.0" (if you use a 22nm CPU) that run at "x16"

1 PCIe x16 "3.0" (if you use a 22nm CPU) that run at "x4"

but, something to keep in mind

is that (if you use a 22nm CPU) that PCIe x16 "that run a x4" in 3.0 "will be the same" that x8 in "2.0"

so... is not really a x4 if you use a 22nm CPU  ^_^

APU = A10

560 Ti uses 256 bit bus dude. Not 192. That's the 660 Ti.
